Emilee Masters represents the state of Kansas. She is a member of the Republican party. Masters received her B.A. in International Relations from Princeton University. She then continued my studies at Yale University, where I received my J.D. Emilee spent the summers during law school in Washington, D.C. interning with a Kansas senator. After graduating from law school, Emilee was elected into the House of Representatives, where she served for two terms representing the ___ district, before being elected into the Senate in 1998. Throughout her extensive career in Congress, Emilee Masters has argued to overturn the ruling of Roe v. Wade and to make abortions illegal, except in cases of rape or incest.

Title:
Save the Babies Act


Purpose:
To provide support and services to new parents and pregnant women to help carry their pregnancies to term.

Sponsors:
Senator Evon O’Brien, Senator Stafford Tanton, Senator Leslie Knowles, Senator Lindsey Baker

Findings:
(1) In 2005, 820,151 abortions were reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
(2) Forty-eight percent of all pregnancies in America are unintended. Excluding miscarriages, 54 percent of unintended pregnancies end in abortion.
(3) Fifty-seven percent of women who have abortions have incomes below 200 percent of the poverty level.
(4) 73 percent of women seeking abortions cite “cannot afford a baby” as their reason

Eligibility:
All states are eligible.

Terms and Benefits:
A state can receive a grant if they agree to use the grant for the following:
1. Conducting an advertising campaign to increase awareness of resources established to aid pregnant women and new parents
2. To establish a toll-free telephone that can direct callers to:
a. Adoption centers.
b. Information for new parents.
c. Organizations that provide information to pregnant women.
d. Organizations that provide support services to help women carry their pregnancy to term.
3. Establishing organizations to provide information and support to pregnant women and new parents and buying adequate supplies (i.e. ultrasound machines).
